Safer Deliveries for Safer Cities
ELTA is actively participating in the groundbreaking EU-funded project SOTERIA, which is dedicated to accelerate the achievement of the EU’s Vision Zero goals—eliminating fatalities and serious injuries among vulnerable road users (VRUs). At the heart of this initiative is a commitment to innovation, safety, and sustainability, values that align seamlessly with ELTA’s dedication to ensuring the well-being of its employees and contribute to safer roads for all.
In nowadays where fast and timely deliveries often intersect with the complexities of urban traffic, the safety of courier drivers is of paramount importance. Recognising this, ELTA have joined efforts with Cyclopolis to install advanced sensor technology onto motorbikes of the fleet in two cities: Chania and Igoumenitsa. These sensors gather real-time data on road and environmental conditions drivers’ behaviour, and traffic patterns, offering invaluable insights to improve road safety for all road users in the ever-changing urban mobility landscape.
The sensors represent a tangible demonstration of ELTA’s commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technology for the benefit of its employees and the communities it serves. By participating in this initiative, the company not only aims to enhance the safety of its courier drivers but also contribute to a safer environment for all road users, including pedestrians, cyclists, and micro-mobility users.
The SOTERIA project stands out for its holistic approach to road safety, combining data-driven urban safety intelligence with advanced simulation models and explainable AI analytics. These tools inform interconnected services that promote clean and secure travel for all VRUs and will help policymakers design safer road infrastructure.
ELTA’s participation brings the unique perspective of delivery operations to the project, providing invaluable insights into the challenges faced by two-wheeler riders while navigating complex urban environments. By considering real-world traffic conditions to which courier drivers are exposed—a key feature of SOTERIA—the project uncovers critical behavioural characteristics and road safety risks, enabling the co-creation of tailored safety solutions.
For ELTA, the benefits of SOTERIA extend far beyond compliance or corporate social responsibility. The integration of sensor-based technologies and advanced analytics into its operations promises significant operational advantages. From the determination of the safest routes to proactively identifying and mitigating accident risks, these innovations will empower ELTA to optimise its services while ensuring the utmost safety for its courier drivers. Moreover, the insights gained from SOTERIA will strengthen ELTA services’ ability to train its employees effectively, foster a culture of safety that resonates throughout the organisation and the wider community.
As SOTERIA progresses, ELTA looks forward to driving meaningful change and setting a benchmark for safety excellence in the delivery industry. Through collaboration and innovation, achieving Vision Zero is not just a goal—it is an attainable reality.
