SOTERIA organised first stakeholder workshop to develop policy recommendations

On 20 May 2025, the SOTERIA project hosted a dynamic online stakeholder workshop. The event was organised by CORTE in collaboration with project partners and focused on shaping policy recommendations to support the deployment of innovative solutions aimed at enhancing the safety of Vulnerable Road Users (VRUs) in European cities.

This interactive event brought together a diverse range of stakeholders—including technology providers, EU networks, VRU associations, national and local transport authorities, and representatives of the European Commission - to gather actionable insights across four key intervention areas:

Technological interventions

Recommendations to foster the development and large-scale deployment of cutting-edge safety technologies tailored to the needs of VRUs

 Infrastructure interventions

Guidance on improving urban road design as well as management to better integrate and protect VRUs

Training interventions

Strategies to raise awareness and improve road user behaviour, ensuring safer interactions with emerging mobility solutions

Regulatory interventions

Policy-level suggestions to support the implementation and enforcement of safety measures across EU cities.

The insights gathered during the workshop will feed into the development of SOTERIA’s policy recommendations. These will be validated and further refined during a second stakeholder workshop planned for autumn 2025, ensuring the final recommendations are robust, inclusive, and ready for real-world application.

The Final Policy Recommendations will be submitted to the European Commission in support of “Vision Zero”—the EU’s long-term goal of reducing road transport fatalities to near zero by 2050.
